Who Are We Anyway?

NEOne is a Social Connectedness Movement promoting building better-connected communities throughout the area. We are encouraging individuals and organizations to pledge to improve their social connection opportunities and build their understanding of mental wellbeing. NEOne will highlight current resources and community partners impacting six key transition points across the lifespan.

Why Do We Care?

Our communities and our citizens are struggling. We must do better.

In the 2021 Community Health Needs Assessment, only 81% of people said that they had someone to turn to all or most of the time, declining from a previous survey in 2018. When these results are broken down by age, gender, and race/ethnicity, we can see even deeper needs for connection within communities.

“Loneliness and isolation represent profound threats to our health and well-being. But we have the power to respond.”

— Vivek H. Murthy, M.D., M.B.A Surgeon General of the United States

What are we doing about it?

The 2023 Surgeon General’s report raised an alarm on the social isolation epidemic in the United States and laid out an action plan framework for building social connectedness at multiple levels. While there are six pillars in the action plan, we have chosen to focus on two.

Two Key Actionable Pillars:

1. Strengthening social infrastructure in local communities
6. Building a culture of connection

NEOne builds on this framework to empower Nebraskans to create better-connected communities through individual, organizational, and community action.
